Welcome to Winstanley

Widening horizons and enabling excellence.

Winstanley is a small, caring school in the heart of the community, predominantly serving the families of Braunstone Town and those in Leicester City. As an academy we have the freedom to provide a curriculum that meets the educational and wider needs of each student. We believe that academic success and exam results are very important but Winstanley also prepares students to be confident and well-rounded young adults that have the skills and abilities to pursue success in life. We are delighted that our students have been able to stay with us until 16 years old since September 2014, so that we may build on learning from years 7-9.

Winstanley is a small school (120 max in each year), where each child is treated within a caring framework where adults know the child well. This means teachers are able to tailor the learning to the needs of each individual much better than in a larger school. You will hear also much about our SHINE values whilst your child is with us. All adults and students at the school know that supporting others, hard work, independence, never giving up and excellence underpin all the work we do. Ofsted found these were a strength of the school and that they ‘permeate the whole culture of the school’.

Many parents come to our Open Evening in September and take the opportunity to see the school in action. You are, of course, cordially invited to visit us at any time. We are always happy to meet with parents, though please telephone first for an appointment.

As well as being a school, we are also a highly successful community college, with over 40 affiliated groups (many of which are suitable for our KS4 students). We aim to widen horizons and enable excellence for all our students. Our students gain much from the facilities and opportunities available: from our new state of the art dance/drama studio to our 25 metre indoor heated swimming pool (soon to be refurbished). Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities such as music, sport and charity events, as well as numerous educations trips, as these play an important part in their development.
